About Hillel

History

Established in Blacksburg in the late 1940s, Hillel at Virginia Tech is the heart and home of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University’s 2,000 Jewish undergraduate and graduate students. In the spirit of Virginia Tech’s Principles of Community, we affirm the inherent dignity and value of every student, regardless of their age, color, ability, gender, political affiliation, race, or sexual orientation.

Connecting to Jewish Heritage

As students discover and engage with Jewish heritage, traditions, and culture, Hillel at Virginia Tech strives to provide them with the resources to find meaning, internalize experiences, and integrate Jewish wisdom into their decision-making, all the while maintaining a campus climate for learning based on the principles of mutual respect and understanding.

"Encouraging Jewish students to feel comfortable being who they are during college."
